Gospel Through Sports

Sport – the language for all.

The language of sports is universal. All people can understand the passion and love it means to compete to be victorious, especially when there is reputation on the line. When we are overseas, language and cultural barriers must be crossed. Sport is a great vehicle for this.

Over the summer over 300 people attended our football tournaments. This meant 300 young people had the opportunity to hear the gospel and know the greatest prize one can win, eternal life.

It was incredible to see the passion and energy that people played with. Each tournament, so far has gathered between 13-17 teams, whereby only one can win. Fighting for every ball, everybody used their whole being to try to win. All of their hearts, mind and soul were focused on winning. This can be a reminder to us as Christians; how much of our heart, mind and soul are focused on winning God’s prize.

Unlike the tournament, we are all victorious through Christ. The King of Kings is alive and sovereign, however not everyone wants him as their King. Our mission in Romania is to see Jesus be placed as the King in people’s lives. We want to see people as passionate for Christ as they are for football.

The bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:57 ‘But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.’ It is important that the youth in Slatina know that even if they don’t win, Jesus has the victory. The devil has no hold over our lives when we call upon the power of Jesus. When we call upon the name of Jesus we can defeat any enemy. No weapon formed against us shall stand. These tournaments can give people a new perspective on victory and allow them to step into true victory in Jesus.

From our tournaments, around 100 people have responded to the gospel and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
